At first, every two or three weeks, you had a demonstration pro or against the bill. And you know the cliché, the only way French people like to express themselves is through demonstrations.
To be honest, I was - and am - not into this demonstration-thing and, I therefore think there is matter to do all of this. I mean, politicians will vote with what they think will improve the country, anyway. And, as a lot of people are staying quiet in France, those demonstrations do not reprensent a lot. (And remember that when the current prisident campaigned, he promised to pass the bill. He was elected and as a promise is a promise the government will probably pass it (sorry).) I've just heard on the tv that "the decision is becoming much more political than what it used to be. It used to be a democratic one, but apparently, not anymore."
And what's tiring the most is the fact that it take over every kind media, and ... we are kind of stuck with it. Wars, bankrupts, international news... everything goes behind that. For example, it was the first year we haven't heard of the Paris Fashion Week of January (Haute Couture) but with one picture. This picture (below) is taken from Karl Lagerfeld's fahion show for the Maison Chanel. And I guess you understood why, in France, we only heard on that very image...
In fact, at first, it was some non-violent demonstrations (i.e. physical violence) but yesterday, it kind of changed. (NB: Yesterday was the demonstration against the bill). People against are becoming more angry - and stressed - as the deadline for trying to stop/make politicians change their mind is coming.
I'm not going to say who's right or wrong, but please people if you wanna spend your Sunday down in the streets (which i respect), do it the right way. Do not provoke the policemen spent there for your own security, and do it with a smile. And if you have children up there, be twice as much careful as you would be for yourself. It is just a peaceful demonstration to show one's opinion, after all. There is no need to be angry. Life goes on, and what should happen will. No matter what, it's going to piss some people.
But life is too great to be angry for some stuff that does not even concern half of the persons in the streets.
Oh, and .. yeah! Look at how it happened in other countries in Europe, and you'll understand how it should happen here. No violence, No anger... Just love, peace, friendship, etc...
xx
